Friends of Statts Block Party

Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 2:00pm – 11:59pm

On June 28, 2008, Jason Statts, a local musician, talented artist, and very good friend, was a victim of a violent crime in Savannah, GA. Jason was shot point blank in the neck and suffered irreparable damage to his spinal column. Since then, he has relied on government assistance to cover his mounting medical costs, and the support of his friends and family to keep him smiling. Cuts in his benefits have caused Jason’s health to decrease exponentially in the past few months. His family and friends are currently organizing another fundraiser to help fill in the gaps in his finances so that he can receive the benefits and medical assistance that he requires.

The benefit event will be held on April 14th at five different bars and restaurants in downtown Savannah; and will include a silent auction, raffles, and live music. Friends of Jason Statts are asking for the community’s help to support one of our own, and hope that you can be a part of it. Please feel free to contact us atfriendsofstatts@gmail.com to find out how you can help a musician, an artist, and most importantly our dear friend, Jason Statts.

Please visit the Friends of Statts website to find out what bands are playing, and to send a donation to help support Jason Statts.

Kiss-a-Pig is a unique fundraising event that pits local community leaders against each other in a contest to raise votes (each dollar equals one vote) for their campaigns.  The candidate with the most votes wins the chance to kiss the pig.  Insulin was originally developed from the pancreas of pigs, and therefore the pig is honored with this campaign.  The pig will be kissed at the Escape to Pig Island Gala on Saturday, May 19 at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Savannah.

Funds raised during the Kiss-a-Pig campaign benefit American Diabetes Association, the nation’s leading organization to curing diabetes and improving the lives of all people affected by diabetes.  Diabetes is the nation’s seventh deadliest disease, killing more than 231,000 Americans each year.  It is the leading cause of heart disease and stroke, adult blindness, kidney failure and non-traumatic amputations.

For more information on how you can get involved in Kiss-a-Pig, contact Maria Center.

ADMISSION:

FREE.  The cost is 3 balls for $10 for the chance to dunk some of the industry’s most popular figures.

Season Finale: Schubert and Bruckner

The Savannah Philharmonic finishes the season with two highly charged, passionate symphonies.  Schubert’s Symphony No. 8, his unfinished symphony has levels of intensity and drama tempered with moments of splendor.  Though a humble, quiet, deeply devout Catholic, Bruckner’s symphonies exude a spiritual power and ethereal strength that is truly awe-inspiring.

Tickets are $55 – $16, with limited seating at $100, and are available by calling 912-525-5050 or online.
